Manholes

New York City

2018-2019

A manhole (utility hole, maintenance hole, or sewer hole) is an opening to a confined space such as a shaft, utility vault, or large vessel. Manholes are often used as an access point for an underground public utility, allowing inspection, maintenance, and system upgrades.
Introducing our recent project, Manholes, which focuses on the unique and visually stunning manholes found throughout New York City. Through our approach, we have collected a diverse range of manholes that showcase Andy Warhol's view in the variety in color and style found within the city. This project aims to highlight the often overlooked beauty of these urban design elements.
